This Asian garlic shishito peppers air fryer recipe is a delicious appetizer that can be ready in minutes. The shishito peppers take 6 minutes to cook in the air fryer. While that cooks, whip up the soy sauce mixture. Once the shishito peppers have been blistered, toss them with the sauce and sprinkle roasted garlic and salt; then, it’s ready to be consumed!

Shishito peppers are delicate; when cooking, they need to be monitored until their texture straddles the line between too firm and too tender while having that blistered look.

First, wash the shishito peppers and pat dry. Then mix olive oil lightly with the shishito peppers and cook on high heat (400F) with your air fryer for 3 minutes. Shake the peppers around and then continue for another 3-4 minutes.

Toss the air-fried shishito peppers with the soy sauce mixture and top with roasted garlic and salt. You don’t need too much salt since the soy sauce contains a lot of salt as it is.

These air-fried shishito peppers are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be kept in the fridge for a couple of days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes, and they are ready to be enjoyed again.

Our soy sauce mixture for this only uses five ingredients – three of them are soy sauces!

This delicious sauce can be used for dipping other things like egg rolls, dumplings, or edamame. Combine all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk until thoroughly mixed. Store the extra dipping sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

  • 8-16oz shishito peppers

  • ¼ cup regular soy sauce

  • ¼ cup black soy sauce

  • ¼ cup sweet soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp chili paste

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • Fried garlic

  • Olive oil


Wash and pat dry the shishito peppers.
Place the regular soy sauce, black soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, chili paste, and sugar into a mixing bowl and whisk until the sauce is mixed evenly.
Mix shishito peppers with olive oil.
Place the shishito peppers evenly in the air fryer.
Cook at 400F for 3 minutes, shake the shishito peppers, then cook for another 3 minutes.
Toss the shishito peppers with the soy sauce mixture, top with salt and fried garlic, and serve.
